The Roof Edge Is One Assembly

People think of siding, soffit, fascia and gutters as four separate products because four different companies will sell them to you separately. Physically they are one assembly. The rafter tails, the roof deck edge, the drip edge, the starter course of shingles and the gutters all terminate within a few inches of each other, and each one relies on the piece next to it to shed water correctly.

That is why a stucco removal turns into a bigger job than the quote for stucco removal. Once the old cladding is off, you can see the condition of the wood behind it, and you have exposed the exact junction where the wall stops and the roof starts.

Why Wrapping the Trim Matters

Exterior wood trim is the part of a house that fails first and gets noticed last. It sits at the top of the wall where water runs off, it is painted rather than clad, and once the paint film goes the wood takes on moisture through every freeze and thaw.

Wrapping it in aluminum ends the maintenance cycle on that trim permanently. It is the difference between a house that needs work again in eight years and one that does not, and it is far cheaper to do while the wall is already open than as its own project later.

Getting the Gutters Right While the Wall Is Open

Gutters are the piece most likely to get reinstalled exactly as they were, which is a waste of the one moment they are easy to change. Gutter work is measured in linear feet, and while the fascia is exposed is the only time resetting hangers and correcting the fall costs almost nothing.

If your builder hung five inch gutters on a roof that needed six, or set them at a fall that never quite drained, this is the moment that gets fixed. Putting the same undersized trough back on new fascia is the most common missed opportunity on a siding job.
