First, Stay Safe and Wait for the Storm to Pass

Before anything else, take care of people. Stay inside until the storm has fully passed, keep away from windows during the hail, and do not go climbing onto a wet or damaged roof to look around. A roof inspection can wait a day. A fall cannot be undone.

Once it is safe, do a ground-level walk around your house. Look for obvious signs like dented gutters and downspouts, dinged window screens, damaged siding, and shingle pieces or granules washed into the driveway. These clues from the ground often hint at what the hail did up top.

Document Everything While It Is Fresh
